HOME REMEDY: for colds, flus and tickles in the throat.

About 20 years ago, when I was in my mid-teens, I was suffering from a serious cold and a deep mucus-y cough the had developed from when I had the flu…it had been going on for a few weeks and nothing my doctor prescribed had a lasting effect on me. I was so tired and frustrated. The antibiotics would alleviate some of my symptoms, but once I ran the course of the medication, my symptoms would come back…not to mention the side effects of antibiotics that my body would have from taking those drugs.

Then one day, my mom and I were talking with my Aunt and she immediately gave my mom a few home remedies to make… of which, I have found this one to be the MOST helpful. Now, when I feel a hint of a cold, scratchy throat, flu, etc coming on, I immediately make this paste and take 2-3 times a day, until I feel better.

This remedy has an all-star line up of ingredients:

Turmeric Powder | Which has a soothing action on respiratory ailments such as cough and asthma. It also acts as a natural anti-bacterial, and is a powerful source of fiber, vitamin C, B6, niacin, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, omega 3 fatty-acids, and phytosterols.

Lemon Juice | Because of its high vitamin C content, it is a great immune system booster. Not to mention, it is also a good source of vitamin B6, potassium, folic acid and it to also has natural antibacterial properties.

Fresh Ginger | It’s the best remedy for kapha related problems like: cough, runny nose, congestion, asthma, etc. It is high in magnesium, manganese, potassium, copper and vitamin B6.

Honey | It is not only heating, so it helps us eliminate toxins through sweat, but it is also an excellent blood purifier and is known to help alleviate cold, cough and congestion. It is also is an herb, like ghee that is known to help carry medicinal properties of other herbs to the bodily tissues and it therefore used as a medium for many remedies.

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed ginger juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  1. Mix all ingredients together until a smooth thick paste is formed.
  2. Take by itself or with a glass of warm water.

Just one word of caution, these powerful herbs are all “heating” herbs, so make sure to drink enough water and eat your meals on time….it will help you get back to your best health faster.
